Get Your Roads Prepared for the Next Winter
How is snow removed from roads?
Snow is typically removed from roads with several types of vehicles. First, gritters are dispatched, which do some plowing but also salt the roads to lower the freezing point. This helps melt the snow and gives vehicles some much-needed traction on the roads. Next, after the snow has ceased falling, snow plows, front-end loaders with snow plow attachments, and graders are dispatched to push snow to the side of the road. Salt trucks may then be dispatched again to deal with any remaining snow.
How long does it take to plow a road?
It really depends on the snow conditions and the length/size of your roads. A small cul de sac in mild snow conditions could take 15-20 minutes to plow, but in extreme conditions with longer roads, the snow plow work could take several hours.
How to make your roads look pristine in winter?
When it comes to winter road maintenance, it’s always best to have a plan ahead of the onset of winter weather. With snow and ice, comprehensive prevention and removal measures make a huge difference. In heavily-trafficked areas, a liquid road de-icing solution may be applied to prevent the formation of black ice and create a barrier between the snow accumulation and the pavement. After the snowfall, road snow removal services will be far more effective with a layer of preventive de-icer.
